6.1 Exercise :

1/ Maxi Mart is offered a series discount of  20/10  on Toshiba microwave oven  that has a list price of  $345.36 . Find the net cost and the amount of series discount .

Solution :

Discount 20% :  $345.36 ´ 20%  =  $ 69.072 » $69.07

Cost after discount 20% :  $345.36 – $69.07 = $ 276.29

Discount 10% next : $276.29 ´ 10% = $27.629 »  $27.63

Cost after discount 10% :  $276.29 – $27.63 = $248.66

A.S.D = $345.36  – $248.66  =  $96.70

2/ Coop Mart is offered a series discount of  30/20  on Toshiba TV that has a list price of  $275.26 . Find the net cost and the amount of series discount .

Solution :

Discount 30% :  $275.26 ´ 30%  =  $ 82.578 » $82.58

Cost after discount 20% :  $275.26 – $82.58 = $192.68

Discount 20% next : $192.68 ´ 20% = $38.536 »  $38.54

Cost after discount 10% :  $192.68  – $38.54 = $ 154.14

A.S.D = $275.26  – $154.14  =  $121.12

3/ City Mart is offered a series discount of  30/20/10  on Toshiba microwave oven  that has a list price of  $645.36 . Find the net cost and the amount of series discount .

Solution :

Discount 30% :  $645.36 ´ 30%  =  $193.608 » $193.61

Cost after discount 30% :  $645.36 – $193.61 = $ 451.75

Discount 20% next : $ 451.75 ´ 20% = $90.35

Cost after discount 20% :  $451.75 – $90.35 = $361.4

Discount 10% next : $361.4 ´ 10% = $36.14

Cost after discount 10% : $361.4 – $36.14 = $325.26

A.S.D = $645.36  – $325.26  =  $320.10

4/ Big_C Mart is offered a series discount of  30/20/10  on Toshiba microwave oven  that has a list price of  $845.26 . Find the net cost and the amount of series discount .

Solution :

Discount 30% :  $845.26 ´ 30%  =  $253.578 » $253.58

Cost after discount 30% :  $845.26 – $253.58 = $591.68

Discount 20% next : $591.68 ´ 20% = $118.336 »  $118.34

Cost after discount 20% :  $591.68  – $118.34 = $473.34

Discount 10% next : $473.34 ´ 10% = $47.334 » $47.33

Cost after discount 10% : $473.34 – $47.33 = $426.01

A.S.D = $845.26  – $426.01  =  $ 419.25
